What is paragliding?

According to the dictionary definition, paragliding is a “kind of parachute with which a person rises from a mountain slope, from the top of a cliff, etc.”

We say that it is a kind of parachute since it is from this practice that everything started! However, the equipment to practice paragliding is not the same as a parachute, and in a paraglider you fly, you don’t jump. Unlike the parachute, we are not talking about falling, since the objective is to stay in the air.

Paragliding belongs to the category of airplanes, which by definition are devices capable of climbing or circulating in the air. Paragliding is considered a hobby and also a sport.

The practice of paragliding consists of the use of currents in the air, called ascending currents, which allow you to gain height, or even “glide” during the flight.

On our website you will be able to discover how paragliding came about, what equipment is necessary for its practice, how it works, how to drive a paraglider, and many other things in the articles below!

Keep in mind that there are different practices in paragliding: simple flight, two-seater flight, distance flight, aerobatics, trekking flight, paramountainism, speedflying, speedriding, etc.
